How to do it
Stand facing a wall and place a stability ball against it at about shoulder height, resting your forearms on the ball with elbows bent. Press your forearms lightly into the ball and roll it upward as high as you can without shrugging, keeping your ribcage down and core engaged. Control the ball back to the start, using your serratus anterior to drive the movement throughout.
- 1Your shoulder blades rotating up and around your ribcage
- 2The muscles under your armpits doing the work, not your neck
- 3Steady pressure into the ball as it rolls up the wall
Common mistakes
- Shrugging your shoulders toward your ears or arching your lower back
- Letting your forearms slide off or the ball drift sideways
- Forcing the range past where you can keep scapular control
