How to do it
Stand with a dumbbell in each hand racked at shoulder height, elbows under your wrists. Brace your core and press one dumbbell straight overhead until your arm is fully extended, then lower it as you press the other side up. Alternate arms for reps, keeping your torso steady throughout.
- 1Feel your shoulder and triceps drive each dumbbell overhead
- 2Brace your core and glutes to keep a stable base
- 3Keep the working side controlled while the other rests at the shoulder
Common mistakes
- Don't lean back or arch your lower back to press
- Avoid flaring your elbows wide or shrugging up to your ears
- Don't let your torso twist toward the pressing arm
