How to do it
Lie on your side on an incline bench with one dumbbell in your top hand resting in front of your hips, palm facing down. Raise the dumbbell out and up to shoulder height by leading with your elbow, then lower under control. Complete all reps, then switch sides.
- 1Feel the side delt of the working arm take the load through the lift
- 2Lead with your elbow and keep a slight bend in the arm
- 3Keep tension on the delt and lower slowly rather than dropping
Common mistakes
- Do not swing your torso or use momentum to throw the weight up
- Avoid shrugging the upper trap toward your ear
- Do not raise above shoulder height or let the wrist lead
