How to do it

Lie on a bench with dumbbells. Extend your arms upward, then bend your elbows to lower the weights near your head.

  1. 1Feel your triceps working as you lower the dumbbells toward your head and extend back up
  2. 2Keep your upper arms perpendicular to the floor to isolate the triceps
  3. 3Squeeze at the top and control the dumbbells on the descent

Common mistakes

  • Avoid flaring your elbows or moving your shoulders
  • Don't lower the weights too far; stop just before they reach your head
  • Avoid using momentum or arching your back
