How to do it

Stand facing the standing hip extension machine and place the back of your working thigh or ankle against the lever pad. Hold the frame for balance and brace your core. Drive the leg straight back by squeezing your glute, pause, then return under control without arching your lower back.

  1. 1Feel your glute and hamstring drive the leg straight back behind you
  2. 2Keep your core braced and torso upright as you extend the hip
  3. 3Squeeze the glute at the top, then lower the leg slowly

Common mistakes

  • Don't arch your lower back to push the leg further
  • Avoid swinging the leg or letting the stack slam at the end
  • Don't rotate your hips or lean forward to cheat the rep
