How to do it
Sit at the lever pulldown machine with your thighs locked under the pads and take a wide grip on the handles, palms facing forward. Pull the handles down toward your upper chest, leading with your elbows and squeezing your shoulder blades together. Control the handles back up to a full stretch and repeat.
- 1Your lats and upper back doing the pulling as your elbows drive down
- 2Your shoulder blades drawing down and back before the elbows bend
- 3A full stretch at the top and a strong squeeze at the bottom
Common mistakes
- Leaning back excessively or jerking your torso to move the weight
- Pulling mainly with your biceps instead of your back
- Letting the handles snap back up; control the return
