How to do it
Sit in a lateral pulldown machine and grip the wide handles overhead with your chest up. Pull the handles down and out toward your shoulders by driving your elbows down, then return under control.
- 1Feel your lats stretch at the top and contract as you pull wide and down
- 2Drive your elbows toward your sides and keep your chest lifted
- 3Squeeze at the bottom, then control the weight back up
Common mistakes
- Avoid leaning back hard or using momentum to start the pull
- Don't shrug your shoulders up toward your ears
- Don't let your biceps do the work; lead with your lats
