How to do it
Set up at a lever machine with a low handle, then hinge forward at the hips with a flat back and grip the handles. Pull the handles toward your waist by driving your elbows back and squeezing your shoulder blades together, then extend your arms under control against the machine's resistance.
- 1Your lats and mid-back contracting as you pull to your waist
- 2Your shoulder blades squeezing together at the top
- 3A braced core and neutral spine holding the hinge
Common mistakes
- Rounding your back; keep your chest up and spine neutral
- Shrugging or yanking with your arms alone
- Letting the weight pull your arms forward too fast
Muscles worked
The lever bent over low row mainly works the lats and mid traps, with the biceps, forearms, lower back, and rear delts assisting.
