How to do it
Set the assist pad or platform on an assisted pull-up machine and grip the neutral handles with your palms facing each other. Rest your knees or feet on the pad and pull your body up until your chin clears the handles, letting the machine offset part of your bodyweight. Lower under control and adjust the assist weight so the last reps still challenge your back.
- 1Feel your lats and biceps doing the pull with the machine assisting
- 2Drive your shoulder blades down and back to start each rep
- 3Keep tension in your back as you lower under control
Common mistakes
- Don't rely on the assist pad to bounce you up
- Don't set the assist so high your back barely works
- Don't shrug your shoulders or strain your neck
