How to do it
Stand holding a light dumbbell in one hand with your elbow bent 90 degrees and pinned against your side, forearm pointing across your body. Keeping the elbow glued to your waist, rotate your forearm outward away from your stomach until you feel a squeeze in the back of the shoulder, then return under control. Finish your reps before switching arms.
- 1The rotator cuff working to rotate the forearm outward
- 2The elbow staying pinned tight to your side throughout
- 3A controlled squeeze at the end range with the torso still
Common mistakes
- Letting the elbow drift away from your body
- Using a heavy dumbbell that forces you to twist your torso
- Bending the wrist or rushing the rotation
