How to do it
Stand or lie on your side holding a light dumbbell, with your working elbow bent 90 degrees and tucked against your side. Keeping your elbow pinned to your waist, rotate your forearm outward away from your body until you feel a squeeze in the back of your shoulder. Return under control and repeat, then switch arms.
- 1Keep your elbow tucked against your side and rotate your forearm outward
- 2Feel the back of your shoulder and rotator cuff control the motion
- 3Keep your torso still and move only at the shoulder
Common mistakes
- Do not let your elbow drift away from your side
- Avoid using a weight so heavy you have to twist your body
- Do not rush; rotate slowly for control
