How to do it

Rest a barbell across your upper back and stand with the balls of your feet on a raised platform, heels hanging off the edge. Raise your heels as high as possible, then lower them below the platform for a full stretch before pressing back up.

  1. 1Stand with your heels hanging off the platform and rise up onto the balls
  2. 2of your feet; you should feel your calves contracting strongly
  3. 3Pause at the top to squeeze, then lower your heels below the platform to feel a stretch
  4. 4Keep your torso tall and balanced under the bar

Common mistakes

  • Do not bounce at the top or bottom of the movement
  • Avoid letting your ankles roll inward or outward; keep them aligned
  • Do not lean forward or lock your knees; stay tall and controlled
