How to do it
Rest a barbell across your upper back and balance on one leg with a soft knee. Hinge at the hips and push your butt back, lowering your torso toward parallel while the free leg extends behind you, then drive your hips forward to stand.
- 1Feel a stretch in the hamstring of your standing leg as you hinge
- 2Keep your core braced and back flat through the movement
- 3Squeeze your glute to drive your hips forward and stand tall
Common mistakes
- Do not round your lower back; hinge from the hips
- Do not lock the standing knee; keep a soft bend
- Do not rush; control the balance on one leg
