How to do it

Lie chest-down on an incline bench set to about 30 to 45 degrees, holding a barbell beneath you with an underhand, shoulder-width grip. Pull the bar up toward your lower chest by driving your elbows back and squeezing your shoulder blades together. Lower under control to a full stretch and repeat.

  1. 1Feel your lats and lower traps pull the bar toward your chest
  2. 2Drive your elbows down and back with the underhand grip
  3. 3Keep your chest pinned to the pad so the bench takes the strain

Common mistakes

  • Do not lift your chest off the pad to heave the bar up
  • Avoid curling with your biceps instead of rowing with your back
  • Do not let the bar drop fast; control the lowering
