How to do it
Set safety pins in a rack at chest height and rest the barbell across your upper back beneath them. With a soft knee, hinge at the hips and push your butt back until your torso is near parallel, then drive your hips forward and squeeze your glutes to stand back up to the pins.
- 1Feel a stretch in your hamstrings and glutes as you hinge forward
- 2Keep your core braced and chest up so your back works isometrically
- 3Squeeze your glutes at the top to drive your hips through
Common mistakes
- Do not round your lower back; hinge from the hips not the spine
- Do not lock your knees; maintain a soft bend
- Do not let your weight shift onto your toes; stay through your heels
