How to do it

Stand tall with feet hip-width apart. Swing one leg forward and back in a controlled arc, then step that leg forward into a shallow lunge to open the hip. Return to standing and repeat, alternating sides.

  1. 1Loosen the hip with each forward swing
  2. 2Feel the glute load as you step forward
  3. 3Keep the torso tall throughout

Common mistakes

  • Do not swing so hard you lose balance
  • Avoid rounding the lower back on the step
  • Do not let the front knee drift past the toes
