How to do it

Lie face down or stand tall and sweep one leg through a controlled circular path, mimicking the freestyle kick pattern. Keep the motion fluid and the supporting hip stable as you trace large circles, then switch legs.

  1. 1Feel the hip joint open and rotate through a full circle
  2. 2Keep the core braced so only the leg moves
  3. 3Move smoothly through the whole range, not in jerks

Common mistakes

  • Don't let your lower back arch or twist to make the circle bigger
  • Avoid rushing; keep the circle slow and controlled
  • Don't lock the supporting knee or let the hip drop

Muscles worked

The swim leg circle mainly works the hip flexors, with the lower abs, glutes, and adductors assisting.
