How to do it

Loop a resistance band around both ankles and stand tall holding something sturdy for balance. Keeping your standing leg slightly bent and hips level, push your working leg out to the side against the band as far as you can, pause, then return with control. Finish your reps, then switch legs.

  1. 1Push your leg outward and feel the outer thigh and glute drive against
  2. 2the band
  3. 3Keep your core braced and hips square as you squeeze
  4. 4Return slowly to the start, maintaining tension on the band

Common mistakes

  • Don't rotate your torso or shift your hips to cheat the movement
  • Avoid swinging the leg or letting the band snap you back
  • Don't lean toward the support or let the band go slack at the top
