How to do it
Place one heel on a low step, plate, or floor edge with the knee straight. Hinge forward with a long spine and gently pull the toes back until you feel a stretch through the upper calf. Hold, then switch sides.
- 1Feel the stretch high in the calf as the knee stays straight and the toes pull toward you
- 2Keep your chest long and hinge from the hips so the tension stays in the lower leg
- 3Ease into the position and breathe rather than forcing the ankle range
Common mistakes
- Do not round your back or collapse your chest over the leg
- Avoid turning the foot in or out sharply while stretching
- Do not bounce or yank the toes back; hold a steady position
