How to do it
Stand tall and bring one arm across the front of your body with a slight bend in the elbow. Hold that wrist with the opposite hand near hip height, then slowly straighten and guide the arm outward and upward until you feel a stretch through the back of the shoulder, lat, and forearm. Hold, then switch sides.
- 1Feel the stretch start in the side of your back and lat as the arm is pulled across and upward
- 2You may also notice tension through the rear shoulder and forearm as the elbow straightens
- 3Keep the movement smooth and use only enough pull to create a clean stretch
Common mistakes
- Do not yank hard on the wrist or let the shoulder joint feel jammed
- Avoid twisting your torso or shrugging to create more range
- Do not force the elbow fully straight if the stretch turns sharp
