How to do it

Stand in a low athletic stance with feet shoulder-width apart and knees bent. Shuffle sideways for a few steps, then rotate your torso to twist toward the lead leg before shuffling back the other way. Keep your hips low and your core engaged as you change direction.

  1. 1Your glutes and quads powering the lateral shuffle
  2. 2Your obliques rotating the torso on each twist
  3. 3A low, stable base held through the change of direction

Common mistakes

  • Standing tall and losing the athletic stance
  • Twisting only the arms instead of rotating from the core
  • Crossing your feet during the shuffle
