How to do it

Stand beside a wall and place the hand nearest it against the surface at about shoulder height. Keeping your ribs down, gently lean your torso away from the wall until you feel a stretch run down the side of your body and through the lat. Hold, then switch sides.

  1. 1A stretch from your underarm down the side of your torso into the lat
  2. 2The shoulder of the planted arm staying relaxed, not shrugged
  3. 3Length through the side body without forcing the shoulder

Common mistakes

  • Twisting into a full torso rotation
  • Jamming the shoulder into the wall or pushing into a pinch
  • Flaring the ribs or arching the lower back to fake range
