How to do it
Loop a mini resistance band around your ankles or just above your knees and stand with your feet hip-width apart. Lower into a quarter-squat position and brace your core. Keeping your knees pushed outward against the band, take a step to the side with one foot. Follow with your other foot, making sure to maintain tension in the band so your feet never come together. Continue stepping laterally for the desired distance, then repeat in the opposite direction.
- 1Place a resistance band around your thighs or ankles and sit into a half squat until you feel your glutes engage
- 2Take small side steps while keeping the band taut so you feel continuous tension in your hip abductors
- 3Maintain your chest up and core braced throughout the walk
Common mistakes
- Don't let your knees cave inward or allow the band to pull your legs together
- Avoid standing up tall between steps, stay low to keep tension
- Don't lean excessively forward or arch your back; keep a neutral torso
