How to do it

Lie on your side with your legs straight and stacked, propping your head on your lower arm. Lift the top leg a few inches, then sweep it out and away from your body before bringing it back to tap the bottom leg. Keep your hips stacked and core braced throughout.

  1. 1Burn on the outside of the top hip and glute as you abduct
  2. 2Hips staying square, not rolling backward
  3. 3Controlled tempo out and back, no swinging

Common mistakes

  • Don't let your top hip roll back to cheat the lift
  • Avoid bending the knee to shorten the lever
  • Don't use momentum to fling the leg up
