How to do it

Sit on the plate-loaded leverage machine with your back against the pad and one ankle behind the padded roller. Extend that leg to lift the weight until it is almost straight, squeeze the quad, then lower slowly. Complete all reps, then switch legs.

  1. 1A strong quad contraction in the working leg as you extend the knee
  2. 2A squeeze at the top, then a controlled stretch on the way down
  3. 3Your back pinned to the pad and your hips still

Common mistakes

  • Snapping your knee into a hard lockout
  • Leaning back or letting your hips lift to cheat the weight
  • Swinging the leg up with momentum instead of controlled effort
