How to do it
Adjust the seat on the plate-loaded incline machine so the handle lines up with your upper chest. Bracing one hand on the seat, keep your shoulder blade pulled back and down and press the handle up and slightly in with the working arm. Lower under control until you feel a stretch in the upper chest, then repeat all reps before switching sides.
- 1Upper-chest drive with the triceps assisting on the working side
- 2Steady tension through the full range on one arm
- 3Your core bracing to resist twisting toward the loaded side
Common mistakes
- Letting your shoulder roll forward at the bottom
- Twisting your torso to help shove the handle up
- Bouncing out of the stretched position
