How to do it

Sit in the plate-loaded leg extension machine with your back against the pad and the front of your ankles against the roller. Extend one leg at a time until nearly straight, squeeze the quad, then lower under control and alternate sides.

  1. 1Extend the knee and feel the quad contract strongly
  2. 2Pause and squeeze at the top, then lower slowly to a stretch
  3. 3Keep your back against the pad and toes relaxed

Common mistakes

  • Don't lock the knee out abruptly at the top
  • Avoid leaning back or arching to throw the weight
  • Don't swing the leg up with momentum
