How to do it

Sit or stand tall and relax your face. Slowly open your mouth as wide as is comfortable to stretch the jaw, hold briefly, then gently close. You can add slow side-to-side and forward glides of the lower jaw to ease tension in the muscles around the joint.

  1. 1A gentle stretch through the muscles around your jaw joint
  2. 2Your face and neck staying relaxed as the jaw moves
  3. 3Slow, controlled openings rather than forcing the range

Common mistakes

  • Opening so wide the jaw clicks or hurts
  • Tensing your neck and shoulders during the stretch
  • Rushing the movement or snapping the jaw shut

Muscles worked
