How to do it
Loop band around ankles. Keeping legs straight, step sideways against band resistance. Take several steps in one direction, then reverse.
- 1Place a band around your thighs or ankles and stand with feet hip-width; step out to the side and feel your glute medius engage
- 2Keep constant tension on the band by not letting your feet fully come together
- 3Maintain an upright torso and soft knees as you abduct and adduct your legs
Common mistakes
- Don't lean your torso or rock your hips to move the band
- Avoid allowing the band to slack or your knees to collapse inward
- Don't rush through the steps; control the outward and return movements
