How to do it
Stand on the middle of a long resistance band with your feet hip-width apart and loop the other end over your upper back like a barbell. Keep a slight bend in your knees, brace your core and hinge at your hips, pushing your butt back until your torso is nearly parallel to the floor. Pause when you feel a stretch in your hamstrings, then drive your hips forward and squeeze your glutes to stand back up. Keep your back flat and head in line with your spine throughout.
- 1Feel a stretch in your hamstrings and glutes as you hinge forward under tension
- 2Keep your core braced and chest up so you feel your back working isometrically
- 3Squeeze your glutes at the top to drive your hips back through the band
Common mistakes
- Avoid rounding your lower back; hinge from the hips not the spine
- Don't lock your knees; maintain a soft bend
- Avoid letting the band pull you onto your toes; keep weight through your heels/midfoot
