How to do it

Stand on a low platform or weight plate with your front foot and set your rear foot on a bench behind you, holding a dumbbell in each hand. Lower straight down past the level of the platform so the front leg works through a deeper range, then drive through the front heel to stand. Switch legs after your reps.

  1. 1A deeper stretch through the front quad and glute at the bottom
  2. 2Front-leg drive controlling the extra range from the deficit
  3. 3Steady balance with the dumbbells hanging at your sides

Common mistakes

  • Letting the front knee cave inward under the deeper load
  • Pushing off the back foot to stand
  • Tipping forward or rounding as you sink lower
