How to do it
Set up in a side plank on one forearm, holding a dumbbell on your top hip or in your top hand. Lower your hips toward the floor, then raise them back up by driving through your bottom obliques into a strong straight line.
- 1Feel your bottom-side obliques contract to lift the hips
- 2Keep your body in one straight line at the top
- 3Control the lower so the hip dips slowly
Common mistakes
- Don't let your torso rotate forward or back
- Avoid collapsing into your shoulder; push the floor away
- Don't bounce the hips; move with control
Muscles worked
The dumbbell side plank raise mainly works the obliques, with the upper abs, lower abs, glutes, and side delts assisting.
