How to do it
Sit on the floor with your knees bent and torso leaned back, holding a dumbbell in one hand. Twist your torso to rotate the dumbbell from side to side, then at one side drive it up into a single-arm overhead press before returning. Keep your feet hovering or lightly planted and your core braced throughout.
- 1Your obliques rotating the torso through each twist
- 2Your shoulder and triceps pressing the dumbbell overhead
- 3A tight, braced core anchoring the rotation and the press
Common mistakes
- Twisting from the arms instead of rotating through the trunk
- Letting your lower back round as you lean back
- Pressing with momentum instead of a controlled drive
