How to do it
Lie back on a decline bench with your feet anchored at the top and hold a dumbbell against your chest. Sit up by contracting your abs until your torso is upright, then lower back down under control, keeping the weight on your chest the whole time.
- 1Abs driving the curl of your torso against the added weight
- 2A controlled rise and an even slower descent
- 3The dumbbell held tight to your chest throughout
Common mistakes
- Avoid pulling on your neck or letting your head lead
- Do not use momentum to fling yourself up
- Avoid arching your lower back off the bench at the bottom
Muscles worked
