How to do it
Hold a dumbbell at your chest or one in each hand at your sides, standing in front of a bench. Squat down by pushing your hips back until you lightly touch the bench, then drive through your heels to stand back up. Use the bench as a depth target without fully resting your weight on it.
- 1Hips pushing back and down as you sit toward the bench
- 2Glutes and quads driving you back up through your heels
- 3Core braced and chest tall the whole way through
Common mistakes
- Letting your knees cave inward or your heels lift
- Rounding your back or flopping down onto the bench
- Bouncing off the bench instead of pausing under control
