How to do it
Stand with feet hip-width apart and the weight over the mid-foot. Hinge at the hips and bend your knees to grip the weight with a flat back. Lift the weight by extending your hips and knees, then lower it back down under control.
- 1Stand over the kettlebell and hinge at your hips until you feel tension in your hamstrings and glutes
- 2Keep your back flat and shoulders packed as you grip and lift; you should feel your posterior chain doing the work
- 3Drive through your heels and squeeze your glutes at the top to complete the lift
Common mistakes
- Don't round your lower back or shrug your shoulders during the lift
- Avoid pulling with your arms, your legs and hips should initiate the movement
- Don't shift your weight onto your toes; keep the pressure through your mid-foot and heel
Muscles worked
The kettlebell deadlift mainly works the glutes, lower back, and hamstrings, with the forearms, quads, upper traps, upper abs, and calves assisting.
