How to do it
Stand with your mid-foot under a loaded barbell and grip it just outside your knees. Set a flat back with your chest up and shoulders over the bar, then drive through your legs and hips to stand tall, keeping the bar close to your body. Hinge back down with control, keeping your spine neutral the whole way.
- 1Feel your glutes and hamstrings drive the bar up
- 2Keep a flat, braced back from start to finish
- 3Drag the bar close to your shins and thighs
Common mistakes
- Don't round your lower back to lift the weight
- Avoid letting the bar drift away from your body
- Don't jerk the bar off the floor or hyperextend at the top
