How to do it
Stand facing a wall with the balls of your feet on the floor or a small step and your hands on the wall for balance. Press through the balls of your feet to raise your heels as high as possible, then lower under control until you feel a stretch in the calves. The wall supports balance so you can focus on the calves.
- 1Feel your calves contract hard as you raise your heels
- 2Use the wall only for balance, not to push or pull yourself up
- 3Hold the top for a beat and lower slowly for a full stretch
Common mistakes
- Avoid bouncing or using momentum out of the bottom
- Do not roll your ankles; keep weight even across the balls of the feet
- Avoid leaning into the wall to take load off the calves
