How to do it

Attach a V-bar to a high cable pulley and grip it with both palms facing down. Tuck your elbows to your sides and press the bar down until your arms are fully extended, then control it back up to about chest height without letting your elbows drift forward.

  1. 1Feel your triceps drive the bar down and lock out at the bottom
  2. 2Keep your elbows pinned to your sides as fixed hinges
  3. 3Squeeze the triceps hard at full extension before releasing

Common mistakes

  • Do not let your elbows flare out or travel forward
  • Avoid leaning over the bar to push with your bodyweight
  • Do not shorten the rep; extend fully and control the return
