How to do it
Stand with feet hip width and drop into a quarter squat. Keeping that low athletic stance, step one foot out to the side, then bring the trailing foot in to follow, traveling laterally for the set distance or rep count before switching directions.
- 1Tension building in the outer hip and glute of the leading leg
- 2A steady low squat held the whole way across
- 3Even, controlled steps without bouncing up and down
Common mistakes
- Standing tall and losing the hip-height squat
- Letting the knees cave inward as you step
- Dragging the trailing foot or clicking your heels together
Muscles worked
The bodyweight lateral walk mainly works the glutes, with the quads, hamstrings, calves, and adductors assisting.
