How to do it

Stand and hinge forward at the hips, letting a barbell hang at arm's length. Curl the bar toward your shoulders while keeping your upper arms fixed and your torso braced, then lower under control.

  1. 1Feel your biceps doing the work with your upper arms locked in place
  2. 2Squeeze hard at the top, then control the descent
  3. 3Keep your wrists neutral so tension stays on the biceps

Common mistakes

  • Avoid swinging the bar or using your torso to heave it up
  • Don't drop the bar quickly out of the top
  • Don't let your elbows drift forward as you curl
