How to do it

Rack a barbell across your upper back and step forward into a lunge until both knees bend to about 90 degrees. Hold the bottom position for a deliberate pause, then drive through your front heel to return to standing and repeat on the other leg.

  1. 1Tension building in your front quad and glute during the pause
  2. 2Your torso staying tall and braced under the bar
  3. 3A strong push through the front heel to stand back up

Common mistakes

  • Letting the front knee cave inward at the bottom
  • Leaning your chest forward or rounding under the bar
  • Bouncing out of the pause instead of staying still
