How to do it

Sit on the floor holding a filled water bottle, lean back to about forty-five degrees, and lift your feet off the ground so you balance on your hips. Rotate your torso to bring the bottle toward one side, then twist to the other, keeping your feet up the whole time. The lifted legs and added weight increase the load on your obliques.

  1. 1Rotate from your waist so your obliques drive each twist
  2. 2Keep your feet lifted and your core braced for balance
  3. 3Move the bottle in a controlled arc side to side

Common mistakes

  • Do not just swing your arms while your torso stays still
  • Avoid rounding your back into a slump as you lean
  • Do not drop your feet to the floor between reps
