How to do it

Stand facing away from a wall and rest one hand on it for balance. Step one leg back and lower your back knee toward the floor, then push through your front heel to return to standing. Use the wall only for stability, not to pull yourself up. Alternate legs.

  1. 1Your front glute and quad loading as you lower down
  2. 2An upright torso with the core braced for balance
  3. 3The front heel driving you back to standing

Common mistakes

  • Leaning into the wall or pulling yourself up with your hand
  • Letting the front knee collapse inward
  • Slamming the back knee down or taking too short a step
