How to do it

Lie on your back with arms overhead and legs straight. Simultaneously lift your torso and legs to fold into a V, reaching your hands toward your feet, then add a small extra crunch at the top before lowering with control.

  1. 1Upper and lower abs folding together at the top of the V
  2. 2An extra squeeze through the abs on the double crunch
  3. 3Legs staying straight as the torso reaches up

Common mistakes

  • Using momentum to fling up instead of controlling the fold
  • Letting the low back arch or the tailbone lift hard off the floor
  • Holding the breath; exhale as you fold

Muscles worked

The v-up double crunch mainly works the upper abs and lower abs, with the obliques and hip flexors assisting.
