How to do it
Stand with feet shoulder-width apart holding an imaginary load overhead. Rotate your torso to one side, then drive down and across your body as if slamming an object to the floor, finishing in a partial squat. Reset to the top and alternate sides.
- 1Rotation driven from your hips and obliques, not just your arms
- 2A sharp brace through your core as you slam down
- 3Explosive but balanced finish in the partial squat
Common mistakes
- Rounding your lower back as you reach the bottom
- Twisting only at the spine instead of rotating the hips
- Letting momentum throw you off balance between reps
Muscles worked
The twist turn slam mainly works the obliques, with the upper abs, lower abs, lower back, quads, and glutes assisting.
