How to do it
Stand tall with your arms extended straight out in front of you. Keeping your leg straight, kick one foot up to meet the opposite hand, then lower and step forward into the next rep on the other side. Walk forward with each kick, keeping your back tall and movements smooth.
- 1Feel a stretch through your hamstring as you kick the leg up
- 2Keep your torso tall and core engaged through each kick
- 3Move with smooth, controlled swings rather than hard kicks
Common mistakes
- Do not round your back or hunch forward to reach your foot
- Avoid kicking violently past your comfortable range
- Do not lock the standing knee hard; keep a soft bend
Muscles worked
The toy soldier dynamic stretch mainly works the hamstrings, with the hip flexors, lower abs, quads, and glutes assisting.
