How to do it
Assume a side plank position and extend your top arm forward under your torso, then return it overhead. Focus on maintaining a stable core.
- 1Feel your obliques and shoulders working as you hold a side plank and reach under and up
- 2Keep your hips lifted and glutes engaged for stability
- 3Use controlled movement to feel the rotation through your torso
Common mistakes
- Avoid letting your hips drop or shoulders sag
- Don't rush the reach; move deliberately
- Avoid rotating from your lower back; rotate through your thoracic spine
Muscles worked
The side plank with reach mainly works the obliques, with the upper abs, lower abs, and side delts assisting.
