How to do it
Lie on one side and prop yourself up on your forearm with your elbow under your shoulder, then lift your hips into a side plank. Push the floor away to round your top shoulder forward, hold that protracted position, and keep your body in a straight line.
- 1Your obliques working hard to keep your hips lifted
- 2Your shoulder blade spreading as you push the floor away
- 3A straight line from your head to your feet without twisting
Common mistakes
- Letting your hips sag toward the floor
- Collapsing into your supporting shoulder
- Holding your breath instead of breathing steadily
Muscles worked
The side plank plus mainly works the obliques, with the upper abs, lower abs, and side delts assisting.
