How to do it

Stand tall with your feet hip-width apart and reach both arms straight overhead, hands clasped. Without rotating or leaning forward, bend your torso directly to one side until you feel a stretch along the opposite waist, then use your obliques to pull back to center. Alternate sides.

  1. 1Feel your obliques stretch on the long side and contract to pull you
  2. 2upright
  3. 3Keep your hips square and your spine tall as you bend
  4. 4Reach long through your overhead arms to lengthen the side

Common mistakes

  • Avoid rotating your torso or leaning forward as you bend
  • Don't bend backward; move straight to the side
  • Avoid using momentum; move slowly and with control
